"Alt text" is an HTML thing—image descriptions are a Mastodon/Fediverse thing. They have slightly different purposes and they're governed by different rules.
Mastodon gives you 1500 characters _per image_ to describe. That's 3 times as many as default Mastodon gives you for the toot itself. There's no way you'll get even close to that if you assume alt text rules apply. Stop confusing people by using the wrong terms. They're image descriptions.
