"Diving," Kōshirō Onchi, 1932.
Onchi (1891-1955) was a printmaker and photographer who was the father of the sōsaku-hanga school of printmaking. Traditionally, the shin-hanga school had a division of labor between the artist, carver, printer, and publisher; the sōsaku-hanga school promoted the idea that the artist would design, carve, and print the images themselves, making it a purer form of self-expression.
Onchi is also noteworthy for participating in the 1932 Olympic artistic competition. He didn't medal, and his exact submission is now forgotten...BUT...many believe this is the work that he submitted. I love the simple drama of it.
From the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

A print of the Japanese sosaku-hanga school. A female figure, in a modern bathing suit, is executing a dive. We have the scene in close-up; parts of her arms and legs are cut off, and we only see a corner of the diving board.
