_The Evening Post_, 13 July 1923:
FRIENDLESS OLD MEN
…
ASHBUBTON, This Day.
During the past few months several friendless old men have been found dead or dying in lonely #whares. The latest to be so found is John M‘Grath, aged 77, who was found in bed in a hut at #Fairton on Tuesday. He was miserably cold, and died en route to the hospital. At the inquest a verdict was returned that death was the result of hemorrhage [sic] of the brain, accelerated by exposure and want of attention.
