I think of tool adoption as a market of sellers & buyers. Someone has a bullet list, I've lost it, of all the many costs I pay when I adopt Tool X
I lose my chance to adopt Tool Y instead. I give my time, sweat, and tears into chatting with Tool X and decoding what it means by what it says. I calibrate how much trust I place in Tool X to do which kinds of work well with me
Static Analysis Tools in particular come at me wrong, they step into my life in the role of police officers gone wrong: censors, bullies, merciless mystic petty tyrants. I've already lost most of my sympathy with them before they speak their first word. They'll naturally come across as interfering busybodies unless they work hard to present themselves differently
