Angry weather came (earlier and earlier every year as the Med heats up faster and faster). At peak summer cruising time, hitting a peak idiot anchoring area. Predictable result, lots of smashed boats.
Formentera is a long strip of land and you anchor on either side depending on the weather. If you don't pay attention, the wrong side is exposed to wind and waves blowing over 100+ nautical miles of fetch.
