A stunning object currently on display at "THE hidden LÄND": an early medieval cobalt blue glass bell beaker, dating late C7th, found in a burial in Lauchheim.
This type of vessel is designed without a base and can not be placed upright, necessitating its emptying before being set down.
Bell beakers were popular during the 6th and 7th c., yet only 5 examples exist in this particular color. The blue was created by adding cobalt rich minerals into the production process.
