The mystery on broken blocks continues. It looks like when calling getCacheTags() that trying to call $this->getContextValue('node') will fail if it is being called early. We where calling \Drupal::service('block.repository')->getVisibleBlocksPerRegion() in hook_preprocess_media__image() to determine if a sidebar was present.
