I'm trying to sing Tolkien songs to my infant daughter, which means listening to the lyrics closely. I didn't realize just how depressing they all are. There's a handful of drinking songs and a lot of laments about the world dying or people dying.
Which in fairness makes sense, as Middle Earth in the late 3rd age is basically a post apocalyptic wasteland with only one and a half kingdoms still remaining free, and a few hidden enclaves. It's a pretty bleak place.
Still, makes for bad baby songs
