This coastal defence was a gem of a find, a fascinating piece of history. It was built to defend the strategic bay of Cartagena. In 1997, it was declared an asset of cultural interest.

A black-and-white film photo of the entrance road to the BaterÃas de Castillitos. In the foreground is a checkpoint hut, and the road then forks as it continues into the complex. The buildings in the complex were built to imitate a medieval castle - hence the name Castillitos. Some of the buildings can be seen on the RHS.
