The unicode detective (codepoint U+1F575)
Makes it look as if they are smoking a cigarette, rather than looking through a magnifying glass.
What noir detective would they be without a cigarette hanging from the corner of their mouth, and their hat tipped to one side.
🕵️ - However in Mastodon the appearance changes from the small unicode emoji seen in the screenshot attached below, which is a shame.
