Lectionary for Proper 12/10th after Pentecost: The miracle of the loaves is the only story common to all four Gospels, prior to the Passion Narrative itself. Despite the similar material, the perspective of John is distinctive. The Passover is near (6:4), a detail not mentioned in the Synoptic versions. This suggests a parallel with the gift of Manna to the Israelites during the Exodus from Egypt.
