Ghardaïa is a city and capital of the province of the same name, located in Algeria.
It was founded in 11th Century AD by Mozabites, an Amazigh Muslims of the Ibadi sect (A school of Islam dominant in Oman and also exists in parts of Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and East Africa).
City is characterized by its fortified nature, as it includes walls and defensive towers, in addition to mosques and granaries.
Ghardaïa was inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, as part of M'Zab Valley.
