Ancient Egyptians held Cats in highest esteem, cats were praised for killing venomous snakes, rodents and birds that damaged crops and protecting Pharaoh since 1st Dynasty (3100-2900 BC) of Egypt. Cats were also represented in social and religious scenes dating as early as 1980 BC. Cat-shaped decorations used during New Kingdom indicate that cat became popular in daily life. Cats were depicted in association with name of Bastet.
