Phaethon is the son of Helios, the Greek God of the sun...
In Greek mythology, Phaethon asks his father for his chariot, but Helios warns against this as he is the only one who can control the horses. Phaethon takes the chariot anyway and causes burning and freezing to Earth by steering too close or far away.
This is how ancient Greeks explained extreme weather conditions in different parts of the world. When commanding the sun chariot of his father, Phaethon was struck and killed by Zeus.
