Favorite new thing to watch 👀 Oak tit kids learning how to open a peanut. The parents chirp encouragement from the tree above but don’t come down to help.
A juvenile oak tit on a fence rail grasps a peanut with its foot but is unsure how to proceed properly. It’s not that easy, the peanuts keep rolling away. The little bird was chirping for assistance from an adult but received only cheerleading in return.
Now the tiny oak tit is perched proudly on its peanut. It has pecked away some of the shell but hasn’t reached the meat of the nut yet. Shortly after the nut rolled overboard.
Trying again with another peanut the oak tit has its butt braced up against the fence while he holds the nut steady with one foot and tries to peck it open.
Whoops, where’d my nut go? The oak tit is standing on the edge of an old wooden sawhorse looking down to where it’s peanut just rolled away a moment before. Easy come, easy go, there are plenty more practice peanuts!
