Why do some #rituals outlast others? (Again, not just *religious* rituals)
@manvir's beautiful talk claimed that the most attractive and seemingly useful ones stick around.
What's an example of such a "super-attractor": happy endings
- they feel good
- that incentivizes retelling #stories with happy endings (cultural transmission)
More examples
- #Shamanism
- Mystical #villains? (Witches?)
- #Dance?

The example of Shaman
Some data suggesting that Shamanism is selected in part because they provide utility: services related to uncertain outcomes (divination, healing, food acquisition, and weather control)
Plotting a "sorcery — evil eye" component and a "witchiness" component to show where certain descriptions cluster on these two dimensions
