July 29, 1983, 41 years ago today: Today was a steaming hell. The haze was so thick that despite a lack of overcast I only saw the sun for a total of about a half-hour throughout the entire day.

A hazy whitewashed summer sky. We are high atop a ridge crest looking out over treetops down a few hundred feet to a river valley below. Most it is wooded, the rest is pastures and fields. Long, flattish ridges rise above the far side of the valley as the landscape gradually dissolves into the haze and humidity.
