T1 lines (24 PCM encoded voice channels) were originally provided over 6 wires, later this was improved to be delivered over four wires and by the late 1990's and early 2000's via two wires.
With the deployment of fiber technologies and the use of TCP/IP T carriers fell out of favor.
T1 1.544 Mbit/s 24 channels
T2 6.312 Mbit/s 96 channels
T3 44.736 Mbit/s 672 channels
Although T2 was defined as part of AT&T's T-carrier system, only the T1 and T3 were commonly in use.
