It makes me think of a coworker I had back in high school who was a super Republican and probably turned into a Trumper, and he was just an extremely weird and unpleasant person.
He was so convinced of his moral superiority and that "everyone thinks this" that any challenge to that made him extremely angry.
So I can understand why someone like him having the idea that they speak for the majority of Americans is so threatening to them.
