The ridge crest was a jumble of small rocks, piles of boulders, dead trees, and scrubby, blackened growth. The entire area resembled the aftermath of a mammoth bombing run. There were a few patches of ripe blueberries and blackberries, but nothing as extensive as those encountered yesterday, so I was able to maintain a decent pace.

Under a smoky and hazy gray sky walking along a flattish ridge crest with many barren area strewn with rocks and spiked with dead tree trunks. The grass and surviving trees and shrubs look olive toned and unhealthy. There are glimpses of hazy, smoky valleys beyond.
