What if Trump were to stroke out tomorrow? Entirely different scenario.
The GOP will not survive it. Because they have cast away every single principle they ever have in service to this guy, their hold is a single-layer deep. Sure there are the die hards, but they don't make up even a tiny proportion of Trump's base. For MAGA people, it's not political. They love the permission he gives them not to control their ugly, dark urges. There is no other dark god who can give them this permission.
