As they were seated, speaking in hushed tones, we could tell they were mortified. Like us, they’d probably been anticipating something nicer. They looked at the menu. They weren’t happy.
Mom and I were trying not to giggle. They reminded us of her sister and brother-in-law, so we were projecting their sensibilities onto these people.

The server waved an arm at the room 20 feet away. ‘Steak is only available in our steakhouse.’
