🎬 July 10, 1981: "Escape from New York," directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell, Ernest Borgnine, Adrienne Barbeau and Donald Pleasance, opened in theaters nationwide.
Carpenter wrote the film in the mid-1970s in reaction to the Watergate scandal.
