Conditions were perfect. Apparently, the colder, drier air that was gradually filtering in as the day went by yesterday was the precursor for a dry cold front that moved through last night and pushed the remaining warm, hazy air out to sea. It was a crystal-clear, blue-sky day.
Bright sunshine, blue sky with a few puffy clouds. Standing atop a mountain on rugged cliffs of fractured dark gray rock. A terrace with a spruce and fir forest is a few dozen feet below us, the very tops of several of these trees pokes above the cliff. This forest continues across a vast valley and up the slopes of another lofty rugged mountain range. There are massive open areas around the summit of the tallest peak. Scattered streaks of autumn colors in the dusky teal forest show where stands of hardwoods predominate.
