Attorney Ben Crump, Family of Ajike "AJ" Owens Respond to Guilty Verdict for Woman Who Killed Her OCALA FL -Nationally renowned civil rights & personal injury attorney Ben Crump released statement following jury returning guilty verdict for Susan Lorincz, shooter of AJ Owens. Lorincz found guilty of 1st-degree felony manslaughter w/firearm. Lorincz faces up to 30 years in prison. Fri, June 2 2023, Owens' children were playing in a field next to an Ocala apartment complex when Lorincz began yelling at them to get off her land & calling them racial slurs. The children left but accidentally left behind an iPad, which she took. After AJ's children informed AJ what happened, she walked across street w/her kids to speak w/Lorincz. She knocked on the door, and Lorincz shot through the door hitting AJ who later died from her injuries. Attorney Crump released following statement: "We are profoundly grateful that jury has delivered guilty verdict in this heartbreaking case. AJ Owens was a devoted mother whose life was tragically cut short, leaving her children, including a young son who witnessed this horrific act, to carry burden of her loss. This verdict is critical step in securing justice for AJ & her family. While nothing can erase the pain they've endured today's decision sends a clear message that senseless violence will be met w/accountability. We will continue to stand by AJ's family as they heal & fight for a future where no family has to experience such devastating loss.
