For today here's the temple of Po Nagar in Nha Trang, Vietnam, taken on our visit there in 2008.

Po Nagar is a goddess of the Cham people, the ethnic groups that originally lived in coastal areas of Vietnam and Cambodia from about the 2nd century CE onwards. The temple here was built from about the 8th century CE and wasn't completed for several hundred years.

It's a hot, humid day, with light cloud cover adding to the suffocating warmth. We're standing on paving stones looking at a structure made from light orange-coloured bricks, some blackened with the grime of age on them. This building is broadly square at its base rising to about twenty five metres in height with the upper five metres tapering inwards almost like a ziggurat decorated with abstract shapes and mythological figurines, all still made from the same brick. Other than the orange tone of the brick the only other colouration comes from a little bit of greenery growing on flat ledges and arranged in pots at the base. On each face of the structure there are tall, narrow, ornamental doorways formed from square pillars that extend outwards from the surface and upwards and which are topped by sharp, triangular arches.
