July 28, 1983, 41 years ago today: There were frequent good viewpoints along the ridge crest, but I could not see for great distances through the steam. I did manage to get several decent pictures. This corner of New Jersey is surprisingly scenic. The northern half of New Jersey is one of most heavily developed areas of the country, much like the portion of Connecticut I call home.

Beneath a soft blue sky with hazy clouds we are standing at the edge of a sunlit meadow on a ridge crest looking down over mostly wooded foothills to a broad farming valley hundreds of feet below. The meadow is filled with tall golden grass, pinkish violet wildflowers and green leafy shrubs. The flattish valley floor is mostly green and golden brown farm fields, with strips of forest, farm buildings, winding rural lanes and small villages. Miles away, a hazy line of mountains runs across the horizon.
