I think I've worked out why hetero romances in novels often get me rolling my eyes and it's possibly a demisexuality thingβthe two characters are usually magically drawn to each other's appearance, and then the rest of the book is "but how do we become friendly enough to bone?"
Whereas queer romantic interests often just start off with "I just think she's neat" and grow into more, with much less focus on which physical attribute the protags can't keep their eyes off of.
