On "Why were buyers of CrowdStrike unprepared for an outage?":

I've seen the hot take that this was because companies did layoffs & didn't want to invest in cost centres.

I think this is kinda optimistic.

A lot of enterprise risk management is staying in the pack, "no one ever got fired for buying X" style.

If everyone buys CrowdStrike, it fails, and everyone else has a bad time too, you're ok. Who could have possibly prepared for that?!

That's why buyers were unprepared.
