Much like the titular restaurant, The Bear has become pretentious; focused on optics and the trappings of high art. Long shots, muted sound and dragging plot progression have replaced character development and action. Deep studies of flawed characters and motley crews can be wonderful but serialized television still has to move forward.
I feel like how I assume old customers of The Beef must feel: enough with this fancy small plate crap, give me a damn sandwich!
