In 2016, the Capitol police recorded fewer than 900 threats against members of Congress.
In 2017, that figure exceeded 3,600.
Every year Trump was president, the number of threats increased. It peaked at 9,700 in 2021.
In 2022, the first full year of Biden’s term, the threats dropped to 7,500 (still too high). Data for 2023 are not available.
