When you draw something in a cartoon style, you are performing an act of prioritization. Caricaturing is an act of *deciding*: What is essential and must be included? What can be left implied? When someone in a 90s anime takes seven steps toward the camera that's seven entire sets of priorities. An entire ordered ranking of essential details! The artist is communicating so much to us about how they see the world and all in under a second.
