So Esher & Walton, as expected, turned from Con to Lib Dem (and without needing a Reform vote šŸ˜‰). Not sure itā€™ll mean anything for improving active travel in The Void though, because highways are part of the County Councilā€™s brief, while paths are Elmbridge and neither have changed composition.

The obvious next step would be to extend Cycleway 28 out from Kingston, but I'm not waiting up for that.

Pie charts showing the current split between various political parties/groups in a) Elmbridge Borough council (~50% LD, 50% CON+RA), Surrey County council, (~20% LD +more left-wing, 80% CON+RA) the MPs the July 4th 2024 election by Surrey constituency (50% EACH LD & CON) and the Esher and Walton July 4th vote (55% LD, 25% CON, 10% Reform, 10% LAB+Green+SDP).

Map showing the location of The Void, which roughly coincides with Elmbridge and within which a cycling network is almost completely absent, unless, like me you are happy to cycle on mud, tree roots, and degraded tarmac*, in contrast to the surrounding boroughs.

* judging by the amount of use, Iā€™m in a minority, even counting walkers and horse riders - go into Epsom and Ewell and the paths are in much better condition - and much better used - the ā€œindicator speciesā€ being mums wheeling their young kids in buggies around.
