The technique of laying a temporary tram track on the top of the road surface to provide temporary services during track reconstruction was once pretty standard, but it's certainly not done like that these days. In truth, today's track relaying is more efficient. Generally it's done as a blitz in which the entire road is closed over just a few days. Whilst this means we don't get to see these intriguing temporary tracks, it's certainly less disruptive overall.
