As a sociology student and non-neurotypical who’s always needed to observe closely to get by in the world (seems some days nothing social has come naturally, it’s been nothing but mistakes, frustration and work), I’ve been keenly observing the angry-population/autocratic-leader/changing-times dynamic ever since reading War and Peace.
Here’s what I see:
Tolstoy was correct. Venal people drive venal leaders to brutal objectives. Those leaders then make their own admirable contribution.
