Photography. The photo shows an often photographed landscape from the Deadvlei in Namibia, but fantastically photographed, close to the ground. In the center of the picture stands a striking, dead tree without leaves, its bare branches extending in a V-shape in various directions. The tree casts a long shadow on the gray, cracked clay soil, which consists of hexagonal patterns and indicates extreme dryness. Sand dunes rise in the background, glowing a warm shade of orange. The sky above is clear and shows a color gradient from light blue on the horizon to darker shades of blue higher up. The photo conveys a sense of stillness and timelessness and is brought to life by the contrasts between the textures and colors: the roughness of the cracked clay against the softness of the sand dunes and the warm tones against the cool ones. Info: The Dead Vlei is a small clay pan surrounded by dunes in the Namib Sand Sea in Namibia. The Deadvlei is part of the Namib-Naukluft National Park. The trees have been dead for more than 500 years. They grew after rainfall caused a river to overflow, but died after sand dunes moved the river.
