Instead of building more housing with the expectation that additional supply will drive down prices (not necessarily true), the government should exercise its emergency powers to appropriate existing unaffordable housing and make it affordable. Let it be a warning to the industry that if it doesn’t reign in prices, the government will do it for them in ways they really won’t like.
