After learning a lot more about planting trees... last year's drought didn't help, but I think I planted the Pawpaws too deep and that's what might have hurt them.
The one that died this year shot up a bunch of new growth last year after I applied some fresh soil and mulch and exposed the root flare nicely
I was inspecting the remaining one (that has about five sad little leaves), and discovered that its root flare was buried maybe 1-2 inches. Not good. Hopefully fixed in time to save it
