Today's historic of the day: Exactly 38 years ago today, the morning Cairns to Ravenshoe passenger operated by railmotor 2018 heads south near Herberton, Qld, July 28 1986.

Herberton is in the Atherton Tablelands region of Tropical North Queensland on the former narrow gauge line to Atherton and Ravenshoe. In 1986, there was a regular passenger railmotor from Cairns to Ravenshoe departing Cairns each weekday morning for a day-return trip to Kuranda, Atherton and Ravenshoe.

A view taken looking forward through an open window on the right hand side of a silver liveried Queensland Railways 2000 class railmotor about 3 windows back from the drivers cab. To the left we can see back through the window in front of us and can just glimpse part of the cab and out through the front windscreen. In front of the train we can see the lightly laid slightly curving narrow gauge track on which we are travelling. At right is some low grass on a slope leading down to thickly wooded land in a gully.
