The nameboards we see here are those from the odd numbered platforms, with platform 11 nearest us, then 9, 7, 5 and 3. The sign on platform 1 is out of shot. Of note is that on most platforms, the signs read simply Flinders Street, because for the most part, the station serves suburban trains. However on platforms 10 and 11 the name Melbourne is added. This is allegedly because these two platforms were those used by Boat Trains from Port Melbourne bringing migrants and others arriving by sea
