These problems are always interesting to solve. So, in my app, pressing Ctrl+T makes one of two tree views (called "Project" and "Novel") visible, and on a second click, switches between them.
The search box is also on the same widget stack, so both can be invisible. The whole "Main" editor view is also on a widget stack, and an Outline view can be visible instead.
The code was getting rather convoluted, so I made this matrix and compacted everything into a single if. 😊
