Today's historic of the day: The small suburban station at Hove, SA, April 10 1985.

Hove is in the south-western suburbs of Adelaide, 14.6km from Adelaide station by rail on the broad gauge line to Brighton and beyond. The station opened as North Brighton in 1914, one year after the opening of the line from Goodwood to Marino. Three months later it was renamed Middle Brighton and in 1920 was renamed Hove.

A view of a small suburban railway station taken looking over a lineside fence. In the foreground is a broad gauge track - very much soaked in oil of the DMUs that ran the line in those days. Behind the track is a concrete faced passenger platform upon which are some overgrown bushes. Further down the platform is a cyclone wire fence surrounding the entrance to an under-line pedestrian subway, and beyond that is a corrugated iron hipped roof light painted station building in SAR style and colouring. In the distance beyond the station are some Norfolk Island pine trees that are so emblematic of the coastal suburbs of Adelaide.
