@grammargirl Question for the expert, the Honorable Mignon Fogerty: I’ve been seeing a lot of “Madam President” being used, but I had thought that since the male version is “Mister/Mr. President”, the title would be “Miss/Mx. President”.
According to the US Department of State’s Office of the Chief of Protocol (https://www.state.gov/protocol-reference/) the “Madam” designation is correct, but why is that?
