Traditionally, I’m a ‘shoes off’ house, as that was the cultural norm growing up. However, in the States, I haven’t been as the folk I’ve lived with weren’t. Now that I’m designing a house, I think I’d like to revert to ‘no shoes’.
Traditionally, Japanese homes have a small area where you take off your shoes, and put on slippers. You then step up into the rest of the house. This is purposeful design. However, it is in conflict to my notion of making the house accessible.
I need to sort this.
