I don like the term "ahead of its time".
Everything that is said to be ahead of its time happened ON ITS TIME.
Other thing is that progress blindness, bigotry, competition or ignorance made it to look out of its time.
Don't diminish the courage and effort of things and acts of its time by saying they where ahead of its time. You are silencing the work of their creators at their time and implying that it wasn't the time to do it. It was, and because of that today is already the time.
