We are at peak #Typhoon #Gaemi now.
• JTWC reports 1-min wind speed of 125kts/144mph/232kph with gusts up to 150kts/173mph/278kph.
• It will start to weaken as its circulation moves into #Taiwan, cutting off fresh supply of warm sea water.
• It will make landfall between #Yilan and #Hualien late this evening, and exit through #Taoyuan and #Hsinchu early Thu morning.
• Upon exit, it will gain new water supply from its southwest quadrant with no land barrier. The worst rainfall is yet to come.
Forecast map of Super Typhoon Gaemi issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center on July 24, 2024 at 0900 UTC. The system is centered some 110km SE of Yilan, Taiwan. It is forecast to make landfall between Yilan and Hualien by Wednesday night. Gale force winds are covering all of Taiwan. It is expected to exit into the Taiwan Strait by Thursday morning, before make a second landfall by late Thursday in Fujian, China. Current wind speeds at 125kts/144mph/232kph, with gusts up to 150kts/173mph/278kph.
