I'm reading a book (On @gutenberg_org) about fire making sets. They mention that some native Americans and some temples in Japan lit ceremonial fires (late 1800s or early 1900s) They gave the name of the Japanese instrument as "hi-kiri-usu". So I guessed "hi" must be fire. Further research- Well, I figured out the kanji, "火錐臼", and learned a new rare English word "gimlet". One site uses "火きり臼" Maybe that is the current spelling? Many more sites use it. What a wormhole! gutenberg.org/ebooks/53531
