Coming back to TTRPGs recently as my kids have reached an age to be interested in it, it's strange to me to see the degree to which hustle culture has invaded it.
I recall an argument ca. 2008 on a major TTRPG forum, in which someone floated being a paid GM, and they were roundly shouted down by the community. Today indirectly paid GMing is widespread, and I've run across at least a couple of instances of directly paid GMing.
It's weird how much things can change when you're not looking.
