Otto Rohwedder and his slicing machine! Interesting quick read on the origins of sliced bread. Ubiquitous now (for better or worse) - I was fascinated some years ago in Munich going to a lidl (iirc) and being able to buy a loaf of bread and there was a slicing machine right there to put it through.
