So the damage caused by a handful of small tornadoes in Cleveland has definitely exposed how weak communication infrastructure is now. It impacted maybe 35% of power for the county and much of that will be restored in a week. Water pumps for muni systems worked fine. But cell and data... wow, they don't run generators for most of their towers. No communication for you.
In the old POTS days, the phone system was powered to run through a nuclear exchange (not immediate blasts of course).
